The third Magic: The Gathering World Championships were held in Seattle, WA, between August 11 and 17, 1997. For the first time, the top eight decks were printed with gold borders. Both winner Jacub Šlemr (Czech Republik) and runner-up Janosch Kühn (Germany) used Disenchant in their decks.
